Verse I

Chillin on the fire-escape is on my mind
I didn't have no choice, born in the ghetto I find crime every day,
theme of survival, church on the corner preachin’ revival,
my thirst is growing stronger, got to get away.
God made the ghetto but is there a better way?
I prayed yesterday my answer came today.

Chorus:  I think its time to Get away...

Verse II

I remember homie, died the other day.
Used to roam streets mug people come home from the steeple
died the same way,  … mad and tired of the evil...

'Nother one bites the dust  'Cuz it be that way...
I think I'm gonna bust with the frustration
Improve my situation is a must
In God I trust for the way

Chorus:  I think its time to Get away...

Verse III

It's not a crime to aspire, called to something higher
got to find what it is blunt stunt my desire like a curse

First, God found Moses in the meadow.
Second, God found me in the ghetto.

Reflectin …on how Moses left the sheeps,
Respectin’… how He lifted His peeps,
the children of Israel out of the jails,
Rogue cops chokin me, I'm waiting to exhale
I don't want to fail.

Chorus:  I think it’s time to Get away...

Verse IV

The only way to get away is not the NBA and when they go that way,
sometimes we lose them anyway.  I heard about a guy graduated from the high
communicating mad knowledge up at the Y came home from college, givin somethin back
mad corporate connections but he still livin’ black.
I got to respect him, he gon' be my mentor.  I'm thinking ‘bout connecting
He know what he represent for.  He know what he was sent for.
To open the door for a guy like me deserving more...

Chorus:  I think it’s time to Get away...

Verse V

I feel a surge of confidence going through my mind....29 seconds remain, 2 points behind,
an urge to climb like never before peaking because of my teacher's encouragement speaking.
More far reaching than the Middle East.  Peace, brings a sense of release from the fear
that caused the cowering, reluctance to learn, my bad attitude, rude and souring
but now I'm empowered in my soul. Ready to pole vault over the twin towers.
Represent strong intellectual power but now what’s the deal?
Fellas sweating me tellin’ me keep it real.  Still, I be slammin’ every test come my way
demonstrating education and wait for the day  when I relieve my frustration
...and Get Away.
