Inner City Problems
(c) 1999 Bert Barrett for 2-BZ Media

Yes! We got problems but what we gonna do? We can't call the ghostbustas…We got to deal with them ourselves.  With so many problems and a culture so tired of being sick, tired, and without, where can any hope of making a difference be applied?  This is
something I wrestle with on the daily…

Check it. This is what I see…

              High Tension by tOObiz

              Ghetto…like a bomb ready to burst…
Too many people needing…too many getting hurt…
Don't push nobody, cause we close to the edge
Don't kill nobody? ..only some take the pledge…

Why I got to go through this day to day?
Wanna be like a refugee and run away.
Depend on politicians to bring it to an end?
Yea Right!!! whether black or white…
They don't keep it real or keep it right…

Gotta help ourselves but how? Where are the young leaders?
Who’s the black Tung Se Mao? Young men 'fraid a getting gunned down..
No one wants to wear the crown…One out of three locked down,
Women are lonely, no real men around.

Wanna be happy sometimes, wine makes it easy
Hell, go for the hard stuff, why be so cheezy?
Not down for religion, that stuff don't please me…
Buss a few nuts…now that would appease me.

Same ol' bull day after day…
There used to be some good brothas round the way…
They done left ..so now, where are they?

Much of this poetry describes the way people feel who experience street life on the daily... The themes include the following:

High Tension, Anger, Frustration, Fatigue, Indifference, Mistrust, Desire for Leadership, Desire for Happiness and Positive Life, Desire for Family, Desire to escape (both physically and by drugs and alcohol), Skepticism about Religion, Relief through Sex, Loneliness…How do you convince large numbers of people with a mindset like this to keep hope alive?   Peace…tOObiz
