Ministry vs. Separatism

770-496-HELP

I wish to address two themes that have good biblical foundation and bring them together in the light of Positive Hip Hop ministry.  The word makes it very clear that the meaning of discipleship is that one must go into the land, and preach the Gospel.  Paul goes further to illustrate that in so doing, he must become likened to those whom he is among, that he may be an effective minister.  This is the meaning of "ministry."

On the other hand, God calls us to come out from among, to be separate and apart from the world-to be a people on to ourselves whom are called by His name.  He asks "What fellowship does light have with darkness?"  So God in some way, does want us to be separate.

How then, can we reconcile these two, seemingly conflicting messages?  Well first of all, God states in Romans 8:1 that we must be seekers of the spirit, rather than of the flesh.  This difference is what accounts for the conflict.  God will speak differently to you based on whether you are spiritually mature or whether you are a new child.  Those whom are spiritually mature can discern and respond to the spirit whereas the new born Christian is mostly spoken to by way of the flesh.  God's message of separatism is for the new born Christian.  He is speaking wisdom into you such that those things you may have a tendency to do will be old news by the time the devil attacks you with them.  If you are a new Christian, don't pretend to be strong...you aint!!!  God is saying dead that thing you used to do, and the old "friendships" you think you used to have and trust Him.  If you sayin' you love your homies and your hood...trust Him. God can at the appointed time, make you strong enough to be an effective minister in your hood, and make you strong enough to overcome any past temptations as well.

As you are obedient and separate yourselves, stay humble though.  Don't be so separated that you become puffed up.  Holier than thou Christians are useless in ministry.  There is no way they can be "felt."  Try not to use the words "worldly" and "secular" to condemn your neighbor.  The tongue is such a small member but can do some devastating damage.

The bottom line is that as a babe in Christ, we have to be separate for a time.  After such a time, it is your duty to accept your responsibility as a disciple.  To minister as God says to go to places God assigns you to.  Become what is necessary to be an effective disciple for Jesus Christ.  GROW in this thing, do not get "stuck" in between, thinkin' jus' cause you barely saved, you ok.
