Who
iz tOObiz???
He is a man named Bert Barrett, affectionately known as "Biz." He is a Brooklyn born sun of Jamaicans. His people are from Kingston and St. Elizabeth ("Bull Savanah")…related family names are the Rochesters, the Powells, and the Elliots (Heavy D’s fam). By training, he is an analyst and engineer (father is a professor of math education, his mom used to work in the courts on Queens Blvd.) He was born at Brookdale Hospital off Linden Blvd in Brooklyn, NY, grew up in Crown Heights on Carroll Street between Bedford and Rodgers. He moved out to Long Island to attend junior High School and a few years later, graduated from Freeport High School. He went to school at Old Westbury College in NY then transferred to MIT, where he got his Bachelors in Computers and Humanities in 1985. Then, in 1997, tOObiz got his Masters in Computer Science at Queens College in NY. Nevertheless, his heart is with people and seeks ways to help. Socially active, he sees what goes on in the inner cities. Having studied his culture, he knows what needs the people have, how the culture feels, and what the social traps are that hold people back. He has very practical solutions in mind that involve self-empowerment through "biz"ness and technology. Biz became serious about God in 1986, and at that time, gave his life to Christ. His personal calling is youth
ministry and his platform is Positive Hip Hop aka "the
Pos HOP." He believes Hip Hop is here to stay, has a personal
love for it, and is committed to establishing a part of it that remains
undeniably positive. He began his media production company, 2-BZ
Media, Inc. , a New York Corporation, in April of 1996. He did
this on faith and because he feels he must respond to the strong calling
on his life to be a leader, while taking the road of entertainment.
God put in tOObiz’ heart many years ago that if
he is "tOObizzy," he doesn’t have time to get in trouble. This has
become one of the mottos for the media company- that if we keep kids busy
by producing entertainment that is filled with
positivity, it will be much
harder for the negative stuff to capture and hold their attention.
To build 2BZ Media into a major production company is his goal, but his
primary motivation is what he can do with this kind of money
to improve the quality of life of inner city youth.
